The Town of Prosper
With a population a little over 30,000, Prosper truly is prospering. Dallas Business Journal named it one of the fastest growing cities in North Texas. Despite the growing population, Prosper prides itself in maintaining a small town feel with friendly residents and some of the best views of nature.
"Prosper is a community that values open space, family and friendly people," says Mayor Ray Smith. "Maintaining a hometown identity and knowing your neighbors is important to us."
What Makes Prosper Unique?
Family, work and access to nature are some of the town's top priorities.
"When people step outside, they see wide open spaces, not bricks walls and concrete," notes Smith. "Most of our housing developments have creeks running through them, and there are a lot of trees and wildlife that can be seen throughout Prosper."
Something that is truly unique to Prosper is the hospitality of the residents and the leaders of the town. From the moment you arrive, everyone is so welcoming and friendly.
"New residents receive a welcome e-mail from me, the Mayor," says Smith. "And it really is me! I value the connection to the residents and want them to know that the town leadership is accessible."
Another characteristic unique to the town is the "Prosper look."
"When big box stores approach, we want the store to have a distinct Prosper look," notes Smith. "We don't want that store to look the way it does in every other town."
Prosper Schools
Prosper is served by the Prosper Independent School District (ISD). Prosper ISD has one high school, two middle schools and four elementary schools. It offers students a wide range of academic and extra-curricular activities, ranging from sports to farm animal care. It is known as one of the top school districts in the state. In 2018, the Texas Education Agency recognized Prosper ISD with an accountability grade of A.
"We have a great school system where students are able to grown and learn in an enriching environment," says Smith.

Festivals and Celebrations
The Town of Prosper holds annual Christmas and Fourth of July events. In May, Prosper also hosts Founders Fest. Founders Fest celebrates the history, people and local artisans of Prosper. The event features the Prosper Fire Department's International Barbecue Cookers Association's -sanctioned Barbecue Cook-off, a 5k race, an art show and a music festival.
Sunday Family Fellowship is another event in the Town of Prosper. The Fellowship is unique because 80% of Prosper families attend local churches, and through the Fellowship they are able to celebrate their faith on an annual basis with music, kite-flying and a picnic.
"As a town, we are proud of our community involvement and the sense of togetherness that we have," says Smith.
Growth
As of January 1, 2021, the population was estimated to be 31,100. The Town of Prosper has seen a tremendous amount of growth in the residential and commercial sector.
“Now is an exciting time to move to Prosper," says Smith. "With new growth, great schools, and a lot of open space, Prosper is a great place to call home.”
